‘Content is King’ is a phrase that Bill Gates stated in 1996 where he was referring to the ‘real money’ on the internet will be made on content.

Google constantly searches the web to see who is answering the questions that people are asking. Google is concerned with the individual googling something. If your content matches what is being asked then you are golden. Understanding the keywords in your industry is essential.

What content is good? Depending on your industry, you could provide content as a step-by-step and how-to guide; brand comparisons, visual content and more.

What Types of Content Are Best?

  • Blogs:
    • Blogs are a great opportunity to dive into different topics for your industry more in depth.
    • Blogs give you an opportunity to use keywords for your industry to help continue to rank your website.
    • Blogs are a great way to incorporate more internal linking on your website, which also helps with SEO.
  • Video:
    • Video brings an important game to the marketing world with YouTube being the second largest browser behind Google.
    • It’s not enough to film a quick video, add it to YouTube and hope for the best. YouTube wants the whole package that includes the thumbnail, short title that says exactly what your video is about, relevant content for your channel, and most importantly to Google, does your content answer questions that people are asking.
    • When making video content, your subject matter is essential.
  • Testimonials:
    • Whether you let people leave testimonials on your Google Business Profile or you film them doing a video testimonial, the content can affirm how good your business really is.
    • Google Reviews should not be copied and added to your website, but you can integrate a Google plugin (for WordPress sites) that shows the reviews
    • If you are filming reviews, add them to your YouTube channel and embed them on your website.

What Makes Content Good?

  • Relevant: Is your content relevant for your company and your industry? Is it answering questions that people are asking? What Google doesn’t want is someone adding content for no reason. While you want to educate clients, you also want to attract potential clients as well.
  • Consistent: Consistent content is essential. Too many bring out one blog then you see nothing else until a year or more later. We have all been guilty of that!
  • Engage current followers and attract new followers: Content allows you to engage your existing followers and gain new ones.
  • As new people see your content then they also see you as the expert in your industry.
  • As you bring out more new content, people see your information over and over again, which adds to the brand recognition.

For your company and industry, determine what content makes the most sense. What content is king for your audience? Do people learn best through written, audio or video content? Always consider what people are looking for when preparing new content. Know your avatar and write the content for them.
